As we know, the country with the most investment and the largest number of companies in Thailand is Japan. Therefore, those who can communicate or have Japanese language skills are in high demand.
According to salary and benefits survey data for Japanese companies in Thailand for 2023 by Personnel Recruitment Co., Ltd. New graduates and employees with Japanese language skills tend to have higher starting salaries compared to other positions. The average starting salary is between 29,000 – 34,000 THB, which is quite high compared to the average starting salary of 17,000 THB for administrative positions.
The salary rates for newly graduated individuals and mid-level employees continue to trend higher than other professions, approximately by 30%. Even as new graduates, individuals who have passed the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) as below :
JLPT N3 level can expect a salary ranging from about 23,000 to 25,000 baht.
JLPT N2 level, it would be around 25,000 to 30,000 baht.
JLPT N1 level, it would be around 30,000 to 35,000 baht.
(*This also depends on other skills and the company’s structure.)
Many companies are in need of individuals with Japanese language proficiency equivalent to N2 level and above, especially outside Bangkok. However, there aren’t many job applicants, making recruitment challenging. This situation has been exacerbated by the COVID-19 crisis, resulting in fewer young people with study abroad experiences due to travel restrictions. It’s anticipated that the number of new graduates with international study experiences will increase next year. Additionally, due to the declining number of Japanese language learners in Thailand, companies have to implement various measures such as providing Japanese language classes for employees and using AI translation tools.
Additionally, many Japanese companies provide language proficiency allowances for those who pass the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT)
– JLPT N3: typically 3,000 THB
– JLPT N2: typically 5,000 THB
– JLPT N1: typically 10,000 THB
The types of jobs for individuals with Japanese language skills in the manufacturing industry are predominantly interpreter roles. Conversely, in non-manufacturing industries, there is a high proportion of administrative, human resources, secretarial, and sales positions. Furthermore, as language proficiency levels increase, the average basic salary tends to rise.
In addition to salaries and Japanese language allowances, working in Japanese companies often comes with good benefits, career growth opportunities, and annual performance evaluations and bonuses based on the company’s performance.
We hope this information helps you understand the salary trends in Japanese companies in Thailand and serves as a guide for your job selection or skill development decisions.
